Drawings
Sketch to Sharpie
OVERVIEW
This drawing is a sketch for a unit in my art class focused on exploring the different ways Sharpies can be used. The project shows how varying tip sizes, fine and bold, can create contrast and depth within a piece. This sketch was inspired by the image of an elderly man reflecting on his past, capturing a sense of nostalgia through expression and detail.
MEDIUM AND TECHNIQUE
For this drawing, I used pen and a ruler, focusing on cross hatching, a technique where lines are drawn in one direction and then repeated in the opposite direction to build depth and texture. I chose this technique because our project centered on exploring different uses of Sharpies and their varying tip sizes. Practicing cross-hatching here allowed me to experiment with the technique before deciding how I might apply it in my final piece.
